While some patients are more comfortable with the application of a topical numbing cream prior to beginning, others do not require anything. Treatments typically take 60-90 minutes depending upon the area. Patients may experience slight warmth, reddened appearance or tingling during the treatment. The Ulthera System should not be used over open wounds or lesions, severe or cystic acne in the treatment area, or active or metallic implants in the treatment area. Treatment is also not recommended directly over certain materials, including dermal fillers and some implants. The system has not been evaluated in some patient populations and medical conditions, including pregnancy or breastfeeding and anticoagulant treatment.
