Upper Arm Lift Jacksonville

No one wants to have loose, flabby arms. Dr. Doolabh specializes in treating flabby or loose upper arms with an arm lift, or brachioplasty. This procedure has helped many men and women in the North Florida area feel more confident in the appearance of their arms. While exercise can strengthen your upper arm muscles, it cannot tighten the skin overlying the muscles. Most patients come to Dr. Doolabh for an upper arm lift because droopy under-arm skin is hard to hide, especially in a warm climate like Florida where you might often want to wear short sleeves or sleeveless clothing.

Contemporary Plastic Surgery is committed to you and your results. Dr. Vaishali B. Doolabh is a board certified plastic surgeon who provides an attentive, insightful and warm personal style, and encourages her patients’ inner motivations for self-improvement and well-being. Why are my arms flabby?

  • Fat accumulation due to weight gain or genetics. This can be a very stubborn zone to knock out with diet and exercise alone.
  • Extra skin due to significant weight loss. The fat shrinks but the skin does not.
  • Sagging, loose skin with extra fat accumulated over time—an unwanted combination that really shows our age.

Who Is a good candidate for an upper arm lift

You might be considering this surgery if you are bothered by sagging skin or excess fat under your arms and your goal is to have smoother arms from the armpit to the elbow. An arm lift can help you feel more confident wearing clothes that show off your arms and can improve your body confidence.

You may be a candidate for an upper arm lift if:

  • You are a healthy individual with no medical conditions that could impair healing
  • Your weight is relatively stable
  • You are not significantly overweight
  • You have skin laxity resulting from aging or significant weight loss

It’s important to note that a brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that involves recovery time and should not be considered a substitute for weight loss or a healthy lifestyle. A consultation with Dr. Doolabh can help determine whether a person is a good candidate for an upper arm lift based on his or her individual circumstances and desired results.

What kind of results should I expect from my arm lift?

The results of your arm lift surgery will be long-lasting, provided that you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle. In addition, since some skin and fat are permanently removed with the procedure, your arms will always look firmer than they would have without arm lift surgery. However, it is important to keep in mind that skin sagging is something that will continue with age and any weight fluctuations that may cause you to lose some firmness over time. We provide additional body contouring treatments like liposuction or CoolSculpting which may be adequate for any future touch ups.

More Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Doolabh will plan your surgery to make the incisions the shortest and most inconspicuous as possible, depending on your desired goals and arm shape. For patients with excess fat in the inner and hind quadrants of their arms, liposuction can assist. If you have reasonably good skin tone and simply excess fat, you may be a candidate for liposuction, alone.

You can expect to receive either general anesthesia or a local anesthetic before an upper arm lift surgery to ensure you are comfortable throughout the entire procedure. After making the initial incisions on the inside or back of your arm, Dr. Doolabh will remove excess fat and skin by cutting it away. Renuvion® treatment may also be recommended to achieve enhanced contouring results. After that, sutures will be used to tighten supportive tissue as well as the incision sites.

While you may notice initial results right after your arm lift surgery, it is likely that they will be temporarily blocked by swelling. For many patients, major swelling will subside by around 6 weeks after surgery and results will be more visible.

Following your brachioplasty procedure your arm may be wrapped in compression garments or elastic bandages to minimize any swelling, along with bandages applied to your incisions. In addition, a small tube may be placed in your arm to help drain any excess blood or fluids. Dr. Doolabh will provide specific post-care instructions for the surgical site and drains, any necessary medication to aid healing, concerns to look out for, and guidance on when to schedule a follow-up appointment.

Recovery time may vary depending on the extent of your procedure as well as your overall health and ability to heal. After surgery, your arms will be wrapped in a snug, comfortable compression to limit swelling and help your skin shrink to your new contour for 4-6 weeks. Arm movements such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or climbing against significant resistance (10 lbs. or more) should be limited during those 4-6 weeks.

A few ways to help reduce scar tissue include:

  • Keeping the incision clean and covered
  • Using silicone sheets or gels to keep the skin moisturized
  • Massaging the scar to help break down and soften scar tissue
  • Avoiding sun exposure
  • Avoiding picking or stretching the scar

We hope the information on our website helps you understand a little more about the brachioplasty procedure.
